Welcome to Planet Bass. This site is dedicated to the beast that is the bass. Without bass holding down the groove, what does a band have? Planet Bass is the brainchild of two bass players - Chris Dale (Sack Trick/ Bruce Dickinson) and Matthew Cohen (Magenta). While discussing the various aspects of bass one day, they realised that there are probably an awful lot of bass players out there that probably do exactly the same when in the company of other keepers of the low end. Also, there are probably quite a few beginners that would love to have an insight in to how other bass players started and how they developed their style and approach as their careers progressed.

So here we are. We asked the gamut of the bass playing community from the top players on the music scene, down to the players who just go out on weekends and cover their favourite tunes the same questions all bass players talk about. What basses do you play? What got you started? What's the worst thing that ever happened to you onstage? Naturally every different player has their own answers, anecdotes and most importantly, style. We both hope you get a lot from reading what makes each bass player tick and hopefully you will also find some true gems of information that will stay with you throughout your career. Just remember you are the glue that makes a band hold together, so have fun and if you want to talk bass then this is the right place.
